If you’re tired of wasting money on trendy home decor, let me share with you how to find your interior design style with the way I found mine.
Where my love of thrifting began

It all started with going to flea markets and abandoned houses with my dad searching for hidden treasures. No, that wasn’t a typo, I did say abandoned houses. My father loved all things vintage and I can remember in detail the weekends that he, my mom, and I would spend hours at our local flea market. We would make our rounds to all of the vendors outside at the flea market before going indoors where we would order the juiciest cheeseburgers I have ever tasted along with an ice-cold Coca-Cola.
Not much has changed from when I was a child except that I am now a vegetarian, but my love for all things thrift and second-hand has remained the same.

Upon a closer look, I realized it wasn’t my post nor was it my home. The problem – everything in their home had the exact same things I had in mind. I had fallen down the trendy Farmhouse décor rabbit hole and my home ended up looking like Target and Hobby Lobby threw up everywhere. Nothing against shopping in those stores but when you only shop for all of your décor at a big box store, you run the risk of your home looking like everyone else’s.
The reason for my home looking like a clone of other homes on Instagram is because I abandoned my thrifting roots to shop for home décor at retail stores. So, after a little bit of reflection, I decided to sell all of my trendy Farmhouse décor and set off on a journey to discover my own personal style. And to discover what my style is, I turned to Pinterest to serve as my inspiration.
