CREATE A MOOD BOARD FOR HOME GYM
Being a visual person, I need a representation of how I want my space to look before I even start shopping. To see how items will look in the space I’m working on, I take a picture of the space and use Canva to create a mood board by pasting images to create how I want the outcome to look.
WHERE DO I FIND THRIFTED GYM EQUIPMENT?
While it is easier to find second-hand equipment in December and January due to more people donating these items during tax season. I have found that you can still get great deals for used equipment year-round.
Facebook Marketplace and eBay are two great resources to search for used gym equipment. But, my favorite place to find these items would have to be thrift stores. The main reason is you can try out the equipment and see first-hand any flaws the equipment may have. Depending on the thrift store, you may be able to negotiate a better price- especially if it is a larger piece taking up room on their floor.
FINDING AFFORDABLE HOME GYM ITEMS ONLINE
Even though I am an avid thrifter, I also know you can’t find everything second-hand. So, to find items for my affordable home gym, I turned to online shopping. To see the tips and tricks I use to find deep discounts online, you can find that blog post here.
HOW TO DECORATE YOUR HOME GYM
Most people don’t care if their home gym is aesthetically pleasing. They just want a good workout. But if you’re like me, you want your gym to feel more like a spa. Plants are a great choice to add to a home gym. But, if you don’t have a green thumb, you can always go faux. I found a wicker hamper for $4 and turned it into a planter for my faux fig trees. I also added a paper mâché bowl with moss that I created a while back. You can find the video tutorial here.
Creating a wall of mirrors is another great way to make your space appear larger while also getting the full gym appearance. You can find cheap door mirrors at Wal-Mart, Lowe’s, and Home Depot. These are usually priced around $6-$7 apiece. You can mount them with hardware that is sold separately or do as I did and screw them directly into the wall. {You can check out my video to see my mirror fail the first time I attached them to the wall}
Creating an affordable home gym is not out of the question as long as you’re willing to be patient. Adding a piece of equipment here and there over time will allow you to do this project on a budget. Along with DIY’s, you can create a beautiful and functional home gym without breaking the bank.
