One surefire way to break your budget at Christmas is by overspending on decor. We get so wrapped up in wanting to make our homes look “Pinterest Perfect” or “Instagram Worthy” or we try to keep up with the Joneses, we end up overspending. This Christmas I vowed to spend as little as possible on decor by creating DIYs, upcycling what I already have on hand, and simply enjoying Christmas as a time for family and not “things”.
With wanting to create DIY cinnamon pinecones for years now, I thought this would be the perfect time to do just that. Since I wanted to keep as much of my Christmas decor as natural as possible, I also created a natural Christmas floral arrangement using the cinnamon pinecones I made.

Supplies Needed:
- pinecones
- cookie sheet
- aluminum foil
- cinnamon essential oil
- Ziploc or trash bag
The recipe I used for my DIY Cinnamon Pinecones came from The Frugal Girls blog and you can find the blog post HERE.
Be sure you line your cookie sheet with aluminum foil because once your pinecones are in the oven, some residue will melt off the pinecones and you may not want to get all of that directly on the cookie sheet.
I used 4 droppers full of cinnamon essential oil and left them in a clean trash bag for 3 days. The recipe says to let them sit in the bag for 5 days, but I was in a hurry so I opened the bag on the third day.

To secure the pinecones to the branches, I used my Ryobi glue gun. I held the pinecone to the branch for maybe 30 seconds after adding the glue to ensure it was secure before moving on to the next one.
