Once summer starts to come to a close, I love making dried hydrangea wreaths from the beautiful hydrangea bushes in my front yard. This is such a simple fall DIY so let me show you how to make a dried hydrangea wreath.
A dried hydrangea wreath can sell anywhere from $100 – $200. But, we’re going to create one for a fraction of the cost by using some grapevine wreaths from the thrift store along with some dried hydrangeas and magnolia leaves.
HOW TO MAKE A DRIED HYDRANGEA WREATH
- Purchasing grapevine wreaths from the thrift store is a great way to save money. I found two at my local thrift store for $6 and $4.
2. Most of the wreaths I purchase second-hand already have florals on them which are usually easy to remove.
Once all of the florals are removed, you can insert your hydrangea stems directly into the wreath without having to use glue. That is the great convenience of using a grapevine wreath — they have the ability to hold floral stems without having to use an adhesive.
I cut fresh hydrangeas during late summer, early fall. They don’t have to be dried before using them in your wreath. The longer they’re on your wreath, the more they will dry over time.
3. To control the hydrangeas from shedding too much, you can use hairspray or a clear coat spray. This won’t keep them from shedding completely but will lessen the number of flowers that fall off the blooms.
