Decorating a Christmas tree with nutcrackers is a great way to create a whimsical and beautiful tree for the holidays. You can usually find nutcrackers relatively cheap and even cheaper at a thrift store. The nutcrackers I used for my tree were collected over the years by my youngest son. It’s a lot of fun to decorate a Christmas tree with nutcrackers and the end result is spectacular.
Supplies Needed to Decorate a Christmas Tree with Nutcrackers
- Flocked Tree {not necessary but makes a huge difference in the overall look}
- Black deco mesh
- Ornaments to coordinate with nutcrackers
- Nutcracker ribbon + contrasting ribbon
- Sparkly tree picks
- Zip ties
- Tree skirt
Starting with the deco mesh, I like to begin at the top of the tree making “puffs” and securing them to the tree with the branches. Deco mesh can be a little intimidating to use at first but, it gets easier as you work with it and the end result is amazing!
Once I added the deco mesh, I started zip-tying the nutcrackers to the tree. I arranged them in alternating sizes and colors. This is where you can have a lot of fun styling your tree.
When it comes to ribbon, I found the prettiest nutcracker ribbon at Wal-Mart that looks like it came from Pottery Barn. I paired this ribbon with some gorgeous black and gold ribbon I found at the thrift store.
And the last step to decorating my nutcracker Christmas tree was to add some sparkly gold and silver picks. I have to say that this is one of the prettiest Christmas trees I have ever styled and it will definitely not be the last time I decorate a Christmas tree using nutcrackers.
